Abstract

The paper discusses a field study of the language and traditional culture of Slovenes living in the regions of Prekmurje (Slovenia) and Porabje (Hungary), carried out in May 2018. The ethnonyms as well as borrowings from Hungarian and German in traditional culture are analyzed. The overview of traditional calendar holidays and Slovene folk mythological beliefs of Slovenes is presented. The preservation of customs and beliefs is influenced the confessional affiliation of the inhabitants of the region. The borderland position of the region affects the preservation of archaic forms in language and culture. Religious affiliation also plays an important role.
