- Abstract
- The article is devoted to the uncommon destiny of the Spaniards, who took part in Napoleon’s campaign against Russia in 1812. Soldiers and officers of the Spanish battalions were mainly staffed of the former prisoners of war who had gone across to the Russian side. This gave rise to an unprecedented decision – to raise a special regiment named after Emperor Alexander I in order to strengthen the alliance between Russia and Spain.
