Abstract
Active military operations during the Patriotic War of 1812 and foreign campaign of the Russian army resulted in denomination of the national currency. Among others, it was caused by the widespread of counterfeit assignations, issued by order of Napoleon and imported into the country during the Great Army’s campaign in 1812. To prevent the retreating army from spreading counterfeit banknotes, a special system of assignations remittance was introduced; furthermore old-type banknotes were exchanged into the new ones, printed with the use of the best practices of the age.
