- Abstract
- The article is a case-study of how construction of the past was playing a crucial role in creating the Slovak national identity. It follows the process of how Saints Cyrill and Methodius were incorporated into the Slovak historical tradition and stresses the fact that construction of their cult had nothing to do with early-modern popular piety. Attention is also paid to various forms of politicisation and use of the saints in political discourses in Slovakia during the twentieth century.
