Abstract
The article analyses the annalistic information about the events of 1113, when the Kievians, after the death of Prince Svyatopolk, robbed the yards of his administration and the Jewish quarter, what is known as the first pogrom in Russian history. Despite accepted stereotypes going back to the constructs of Vasily Tatishchev, Jews could not play the role of main exploiters in an old-Russian town and even less in the countryside, where money-landing operations were controlled by boyars.
