- Abstract
- The article considers the memoirs of medical nurse Sophia Aleksandrovna Kenig. She had refi ned artistic taste and wrote wonderful descriptions of picturesque landscapes in Bulgaria. She was fi xing her attention on things, which a soldier or an offi cer would never describe, be it a women's baths in Tarnovo, or cosmetics used by Bulgarian women. By the same token, Kenig, as many Russians, was coming to false conclusions about the Bulgarians due to not-knowing the language and folk traditions.
