- Abstract
- After the Cigirin War of 1677-1678, the Ottoman Porte was making efforts to reinforce the system of fortresses in the Low Dnepr and, at the same time, trying to establish its protectorate over the Zaporozhyan Sech. It led to the attempts of the kosh-ataman (kosevoj ataman) Ivan Serko to win support of the Polish royal court. This resulted in a draft- agreement, which implied that a group of the Zaprozhyan Cossacks would come under the sway of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. However, this project had not been ratified for a number of reasons.
