- Abstract
- Gogol's novel «Taras Bul'ba» had been long considered in Poland as Polonophobic and was fi rst translated into Polish as late as 2001. The article deals with its different interpretations in Polish literary critics, beginning from the fi rst negative judgment of M. Grabowski (1846) up to present day. The myth of Gogol had been permanently used for political and ideological purposes. A recent example is the fi lm of V. Bortko (2009), which distorts the initial concept of the writer.
