- Abstract
- Ivo Andrić, after he introduces a certain character and announces his or her name, sometimes uses, later in the text, a substitute for this name. The substitute is usually derived from the character description provided in the text preceding the substitute. What he uses, is two distinguishable qualities that mark the character at hand. In this way, it is always clear which substitute relates to which character. The use of substitutes facilitates a lesser usage of personal names and helps to make a story more clear.
