- Abstract
- The article deals with the biography and diplomatic activity of Eustathius GinovskyAstamaty, one of the prominent Ukrainian diplomats of the second half of seventeenth century. Some facts of his biography during Ivan Vyhovsky’s rule have been revised and updated. Furthermore the paper focuses on Ginovsky-Astamaty’s activity in the 1670s, when he played an important role in relations between Yuri Khmelnitsky, the hetman of Right-bank Ukraine, and the Ottoman Empire. An earlier unknown diplomatic instruction for the negotiations with the Ottomans, which was given to Ginovsky-Astamaty by the hetman, is thoroughly examined. The document itself is published as an annex.
