- Abstract
- Textology and the language evidently testify, the Prophesies («Tolkovye prorochestva») in the Bible of Matfei Desyatyi of 1502–1507 are of Russian origin. This manuscript had a protograph common with other Russian copies of the Prophesies survived from the late fifteenth century and through it went back to the eastern-Slavic codex of 1047 of the priest Upyr’ Likhoi. Matfei Desyatyi took the Book of Prophet Daniel and overworked its text. The goal of the editor’s work was to adapt the ancient Bulgarian text for the readers. His sources were Method’s translation of the Book of Prophet Daniel, compilation from the general history, which had a common protograph with the Archivskyi and Vilenskyi chronographs as well as the second edition of the «Hellenic annalist» («Ellinskyi letopisets»). The sources and character of this correcting have been unclear until now.
