Abstract
The article is devoted to the activities of the Russian intelligence on the eve of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877–1878. The focal point is the role of the Russian consular network in the process of gathering intelligence information about the enemy and transmitting it to St. Petersburg and the headquarters in Chişinău.
