- Abstract
- The article investigates the semantics and pragmatics of the word snokha («daughterin-law») in medieval Russian sources of different types. Particular attention is given to its use in the oldest chronicles: Laurentian, Hypatian and the First Novgorodian Chronicle. Data from those three chronicles is compared with the readings of other texts: graffiti, testament, etc. We try to show common and different features in the usage of affinity and consanguinity terms in various spheres of medieval written culture.
