- Abstract
- The article is drawn on the outcome of field research conducted in Guadalupe, and focuses on the Creole language and identity as a form of self-definition among the population of the French Antilles. The author discusses a variety of linguistic practices in different social settings and discourses, including those of mass media, education, and literature, as well as the impact of nationalistic ideology on the current state of language.
