- Abstract
- The political success of the Iraqi (South) Kurdistan is largely dependent on the development of its energy sector, which is characterized in recent years by steady growth. This factor increases the economic and political autonomy local Kurdistan administration from the central government in Baghdad.Over the past decade, in Iraqi Kurdistan built a new energy economy with almost two dozen power plants and associated infrastructure, invested more than $5 billion, implemented a program for rural electrification, power lines were connected to more than 3 thousand villages. In 2009-2013 the number of objects connected to electricity in the Kurdistan region increased from 0.7 to 1.1 million.
