Abstract
In February 2016, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the permanent leader of Uganda for over 30 years, won the presidential election for the fifth time. The article discusses the positive and negative aspects of political longevity. It claims that this issue is particularly important for Uganda, whose leader causes mixed reactions among the country’s citizens and representatives of the international community ambivalent: on the one hand, he is accused of the usurpation of power, on the other hand, it is widely accepted that it is thanks to his tenacity and political wisdom that Uganda has become one of the most stable and economically developed countries in Africa. The author focuses on tough domestic policies of the current regime, the main trends in the formation of foreign policy, including relations with donors and investors, the successes and failures of the socio-economic and economic policy, and the conflict between the regime and the opposition.
