Abstract
The attempt is made to discover the constructive meaning of myth. The starting point of the reasoning is the interpretation of myth as the primordial legend. Subjective understanding of myth as a product of consciousness and a system of representations is criticized. Instead of it, the constructive understanding is put forward. According to such an understanding consciousness, representations and human reality are themselves the product of myth. The essential features of the myth that are revealed by this constructive understanding are considered. Those features are independence from the consciousness, primordiality, arche, causality, historicity - in their mythological specificity.
