- Abstract
- “New people” in the novel “What is to be done” by N. Chernyshevsky are people, who, while developing themselves change their environment, self-made people. Cognition and their pursuit become the basis of their life. The love for themselves and for the people around, the recognition of the fact that the beautiful is the life, the daring and courage are their main qualities. Chernyshevsky had written the novel about the young people of his time. But the features of the novel's characters are present in our contemporaries. The article discusses the “pursuit” of each of the characters, and draws a parallel with the present day.
