Abstract
Where did economic societies come from? Contemporary economic philosophy enquires into the origins of the anthropological model that this society is based on. Multiple answers are suggested by such thinkers as Karl Polanyi, Hannah Arendt, Michel Foucault, Giorgio Agamben. This paper compares the explanations put forward by these philosophers and critically assesses the respective solutions to the problem of economization.
