Abstract
The article deals with M. Gorky's intellectual idea that was expressed in the poem “The Man” (1903) in its state of the constant over the entire work by Gorky. The author of this article is interested in socio-cultural and artistic context of Gorky's appeal to this idea. Creative works by Auguste Rodin and his Russian student Anna Golubkina related to the problem of Man are also quite relevant in this context. The author considered post-revolutionary journalism by M. Gorky, where he acts as a defender of the rights of Russian scientists under the Bolshevik regime and as the initiator of foundation of research institutes involved in the problems of health and human longevity.
