- Abstract
- The article analyzes the social phenomenon of “self-sufficiency” of Russians, which is based on the ability of people (according to self-assessment) to successfully exist and provide for themselves, relying only on their own strength and not relying on the state. “Self-sufficiency” is defined as a specificsocial marker that reflects the process of developing a responsible and independent approach to their own lives. The empirical basis of the study is a representative survey of 4,000 Russians (March 2015). It was found that “self – sufficiency” and independence from the state are key characteristics of life attitudes of more than 40% of Russians. Their socio-demographic and socio-professional profiles are presented, their socio-economic well-being and positionare characterized, and their worldview attitudes are analyzed. Self-sufficiency is closely related to activity and enterprise, material and social success. It is concluded that “self-sufficiency” in Russian society can now become its social dominant, a support for stable and sustainable development.
