Abstract
Systematic research on multiculturalism began in the 1970s, primarily in Canada and Australia. The defeat of assimilation ideologies in the United States was one of the reasons for the emergence of a wide stream of publications on this phenomenon, which was initially perceived as a key to the solution of all ethnic and cultural problems. Various approaches to the definition of “multiculturalism”are analyzed. Various types of multiculturalism are considered on the example of Poland.
