Abstract
The minutes of the qadi court concerning the distribution of legacies are a versatile historical source, containing precious information about different aspects of the Ottoman society, including the Balkan provinces of the Empire. The article deals with the structure and typical features of the legacy minutes as a historical source and explores the possibilities of their study.
