Most of the compound words in Old Church Slavonic language were formed in the process of translations from Greek original texts by the medieval Slavic bookmen themselves. The author believes that the study in word-formation of these compound words should be subordinated to the task of revealing methods of creation of the Old Church Slavonic lexical inventory. Thus, it is necessary to take into account not only the word-formation relations that developed within the Old Church Slavonic lexicon, but above all the circumstances of insertion of these compound words into the Old Slavonic lexical inventory.
