- Abstract
The article discusses a difficult period for the Polish section of the Communist International. The chronological boundaries are marked by Marshal Pilsudski's coup d’etat in May 1926 and the dissolution of the Communist Party of Poland in August 1938 which was not accepted by some party members. Unprecedented repression was launched against Polish communists in the USSR, beginning in 1929, continuing through 1933-34, and reaching a climax in 1939, which may be seen as the prologue of the Great Purge.
