- Abstract
- The article views cultural connotations of the Russian numeral девять being presented as the base for semantic and formative derivation or as a component of idiomatic expressions. Main attention is concentrated on dialect lexica and phraseology referred to the area of beliefs and rituals. In order to confirm and widen the connotations of девять revealed in Russian dialect data other Slavic (mainly Polish) materials are also studied.
