Abstract
Basing on the travel-notes of the Russian historian Dmitry Bantysh-Kamensky, orders of Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov, who was the commander-in-chief of the Russian army during the Russian-Turkish war of 1806-1812, and some other sources, the article reconstructs how Russian eyewitnesses perceived the Danubean Principalities in the first decades of the nineteenth century.
