- Abstract
- In the Middle Ages, the image of the Slavs in Poland was reflected mainly in the Legend of the Three Brothers, which later was combined with the Sarmatian theory. The first half of nineteenth century was the heyday of the Slavic idea in Poland, when ancient Slavs were romanticized, and their descendants were seen as bearers of a special mission in Europe. Later on, the dream of a great Slavic union came to naught, but the idea of their commonality as such was present in one or another way through the whole of the twenties century.
