Abstract

The article explores an important composite part in the legacy of Serguei F. Platonov, namely his research on the history of medieval Russian towns. Combining the written sources, analysed in a comparative perspective, with the archeological ones, the historian came to well-grounded and original conclusions. Platonov's unknown comments on F.I. Zubarev's work, which were nominated for the Russian Military-Historical Society Award, are being published here for the first time.
