Abstract
On the eve of World War One, Ukrainian politicians in Austria-Hungary began actively to include Dnieper Ukraine into their projects of the Ukrainian question’s solution. Тhey expected to increase their significance for Vienna at the expense of the Polish ruling elite in Galicia. The Ukrainian leaders did not expect that Franz Ferdinand’s assassination would lead to a big war. They started preparing for the entry to war against Russia only after Austria-Hungary had declared war on Serbia.
