Abstract
The article discusses the milestones of life and career of Nicolaп Michoutouchkine, a French painter, traveler, collector of art and objects of native peoples of Oceania, designer of decorated clothing, organizer of traveling exhibitions, chevalier et offi cier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres, and chevalier de l'Ordre du Mйrite national. October 5, 2009, has marked his 80th anniversary. Over the past 30 years Michoutouchkine's exhibition activities have been recurrently connected to Russia, where his ancestors had been born, and fi rst and foremost to the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now the Russian Academy of Sciences), under the auspices of which he organized 14 exhibitions, and to the various subdivisions of which he gave 100 ethnographic objects from Oceania. The activities of Michoutouchkine, who resides in the Republic of Vanuatu, have been always instrumental in strengthening the link between Russia's scholars and the countries of Oceania.
