Abstract

The paper offers a new edition and interpretation of the inscription from Kyz-Aul necropolis recently published by N.A. Pavlichenko. The proposed restoration of the text supposes that it describes the reconstruction of a ruined military building. It reveals that before sending a Roman garrison to the Bosporan Kingdom at the beginning of the third century AD, Emperor Septimius Severus deprived its ruler Sauro-mates II of his royal status for disobedience.
