The first half of nineteenth century was the heyday of the Slavic idea in Poland, when ancient Slavs were romanticized, and their descendants were seen as bearers of a special mission in Europe. Later on, the dream of a great Slavic union came to naught, but the idea of their commonality as such was present in one or another way through the whole of the twenties century.</p>
